Throughout this article we have seen several examples of gender talk and gender tension. While there maybe some connections in what we have seen it is important to remember just what is real and what is simply a stereotype. What we have talked about however is differences, the differences between males and females will hopefully give you a better understanding of the things around you and possibly even at work.

Some of the most noticeable differences between the two genders include:

• Object of talk: Men maintain status and independence while women make connections
• Listening behaviour: Women are better at listing then men who prefer to move around while listening
• Method: Women prefer questions and "we" statements while men prefer "I" statements and take charge speech
• Pauses: Women pause more to let others talk while men interrupt each other
• Gestures: Women have small, confined gestures while men have big, expansive gestures
